Polo G has returned with the slick video for his new single “Distraction.”
The track serves as the Chicago rapper’s first new solo music since the arrival of the deluxe edition of Hall of Fame last year. The lyrics see Polo getting introspective about not receiving enough respect for his talent, and opening up about his battle with drug addiction.
The Christian Breslauer-directed video shows Polo as he goes from successes to failures, graduating at one point and heading to jail just moments later. Complete with lots of special effects shots and some inventive transitions, the high-energy visual perfectly suits the bittersweet tone. “Distraction” is the debut single from Polo’s yet-to-be-titled forthcoming album produced from front to back by Southside.
This isn’t the first time Polo has spoken about his drug use. He recently shared a story about a near-fatal overdose he had before filming the video for his breakthrough song “Heartless.” He said that he was “fresh out the hospital bed from almost overdosing onnem pills,” and has said he had another close call with drugs at a party in 2019. After both of those experiences, he admitted he needed to “slow down on that,” especially because he’s a father.
Earlier this year, it was reported that Polo G had misdemeanor charges for resisting an officer without violence dropped after he completed a six-hour anger management course. The rapper was initially arrested for allegedly attacking a police officer during a June 2021 traffic stop.
